Barbara White’s My Barn is inspired by a Japanese poem and explores the decay of sounds and the journey from turbulence to peace. Modern Africa is conjured up in Judith Weir’s exquisite song cycle, Nuits d’Afrique. Folk-song from Scotland bubbles up and courses through Weir’s Blue Green Hill – evoking the twists and turns of traditional fiddle tunes. Estonian composer, Helena Tulve, uses sinuous sounds to create the movement of water in her evocative piece, Stream. Benjamin Graves is a composer and clarinettist whose work, Roche Rock, is inspired by the ancient chapel overlooking the village of Roche.
